What’s so great about Door County?

What’s to love about Door County? The better question is what’s not to love?

The water, the people, the festivals, the restaurants, the relaxation, the list goes on.

Sunset in Door County

I’ve been coming to Door County for more than 25 years. And every time I visit, I find something new to enjoy.

By far, my favorite time to spend a few days is late September into early October. Autumn in Door County is magical. The fall colors as you walk through the state parks, will make you think you’re in a Crayola ad.

Don’t get me wrong, summer is great here too. And for that matter, so are winter, and spring. I’ve vacationed in Door County every month of the year, and it’s awesome year-round.

If you want a quiet getaway, curled up around the fire, winter is your season.

If you want to enjoy great fishing and golf, come on up in the spring.

If warm weather and water sports are your thing, you want to spend some time here during the glorious summer months.

But if you want to see the colors and enjoy autumn festivals, you must visit in the fall. We come up every September around Labor Day. As I said, this is my favorite time of year in Door County.

Of course, that doesn’t mean you can’t golf in the summer or fall, and there’s plenty of quite places tucked away in the summer. My point is that any time is a good time to visit Door County.

Door County Restaurants

Many people come to the peninsula for the restaurants. And that makes a lot of sense. Some of the best, most quaint, eccentric eateries are found here. There are hundreds of Door County restaurants, cafés, and bistros – and most of them are spectacular. I can’t say I’ve been to them all (that would be a lot of eating out), but I’ve been to many, and I don’t think I’ve ever had a bad meal.

Door County Shopping

Do you like to shop? I know, who doesn’t.

Door County is a shopper’s dream. Whether it’s Egg Harbor, Fish Creek, Sturgeon Bay, Ephraim, Baileys Harbor, Jacksonport, Sister Bay or any of the other quaint little towns up and down the peninsula, Door County is filled with cute, little eclectic shops. You’re always just steps away from your next perfect purchase.
