Sister Bay Marina Fest: September 5-6
Marina Fest in Sister Bay on September 5 and 6 is the unofficial close of the Door County summer season and the defining event of the Labor Day weekend. The festival runs both days at the Sister Bay Marina with live entertainment, food and beverage vendors, children’s activities, a boat parade on the bay, and fireworks in the evening.

Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant with its famous rooftop goats is still running its full summer hours. CHOP steakhouse is open Thursday through Saturday from 4:30 p.m. and worth a reservation for a Saturday evening dinner before or after the waterfront festivities. The Stabbur Beer Garden adjacent to Al Johnson’s is one of the most enjoyable afternoon spots in the village and a natural landing spot between the marina and a walk through downtown.
Gills Rock Art Fest: September 5-6
While Sister Bay fills with the Marina Fest crowd, Gills Rock at the far northern tip of the mainland holds its 24th annual Art Fest on September 5 and 6 in the large field behind the Top of the Thumb Gift Shop, near the entrance to the Death’s Door Maritime Museum.
This is one of the most intimate and genuinely community-rooted art events on the Door County calendar, showcasing paintings, pottery, etchings, assemblages, jewelry, and three-dimensional works from a mix of local and regional artists, all available for purchase.
Food vendors serve fried rice, wontons, brats, and hot dogs through the day.
